"Wonderful stay, great City location, friendly staff, lovely room, very tastefully laid out considering the period of the building. Stay here if you want to enjoy a historic experience. The bed was so comfy and the pillows were like sleeping on clouds. Lots of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits in the room, can't fault the stay, look forward to staying here again. "

"Visited for our 32nd wedding anniversary and was not disappointed. Booked a classic double room but when we arrived were informed that they upgraded us to an executive room which was really large and immaculately prepared. We had use of the spa facilities if needed for additional cost but free use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna for 1 hour per day which made for a relaxing time after a long walk around York. Breakfast was really nice with a large choice of continental and cooked...

"This hotel is packed with original features but I didn't see any of the amenities it has to offer. There is no lift. And due to the age of the building, it's quite loud so either bring ear plugs or be a heavy sleeper."

"Cancelled our break with only 2 weeks notice! Very difficult to rebook with such short notice around the Christmas period! "

"We had a great stay. All staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is clean and such a lovely building. Room was a squeeze to negotiate the entrance way and was a bit dark in certain places. Bathroom was compact but lovely - very nice toiletries provided. Pool area was spotless and had good facilities. Ideal location from station and only a short walk into the centre of York."

"Perfect location for walking into the city or to the railway station (no more than 10-15mins). Stayed in the delux double bedroom in the annex. Confused as room didn’t match the images on their website. Duty manager informed and he agreed and apologised. For a delux room would have expected more luxuries, the only benefit seemed to be size of room and en-suite. Breakfast options ok, but as for advertising continental options, only saw yoghurt "

"The location is excellent and the inn full of character. The staff were all lovely and breakfast well presented and very good quality . The room was clean and pleasant, but as it was overlooked by both the City Walls and the beer garden I had to keep the curtains closed. Also the industrial extractor fan for the kitchen was right outside my window so there was a continuous noise from 7.00 until late into the evening. In a way, it was a plus because it was white noise that mitigated the noise...
