Shobu-an Machiya Holiday House

4.0 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (19)
"Good experience to stay in traditional Japanese house.clean and kitchen well equipped. Washing machine was convenient. Due to it being an older building, insulation isn’t very good and gets very cold in the winter and need heaters in all rooms. Location is not great as it is walking distance to most places. Bus stop 7 minute walk. Could have provided more furniture such as chairs. Overall nice experience besides being on the cold side."

Suo-an Machiya Holiday House

3.5 star property
8.4 out of 10, Very Good, (9)
"We wanted to stay in a traditional house that could sleep two couples and this was a great experience. I think if you had little familiarity with Japan and/or Kyoto, it would be a bit hard to find. The neighborhood was not hard to navigate, but it was a good ten minute walk to the busy part of shijo-dori. We arrived very late in the evening but had no trouble. Our first contact with the management was the next morning via the cell phone they make available. The management rep had very good...

Kyomachiya-Oyado Hana

2.5 star property
7.0 out of 10, Good, (2)
"Traditional Japanese house on two floors with tatami and futons, sliding screens and a lovely little internal garden. Narrow and steep stairs. Not for anyone with mobility restrictions. Excellent bidet toilets and good shower and bath. It's in a residential neighbourhood and centrally located 10 minutes walk from Kyoto station. Both my children suffer from allergies and suffered attacks. The tatami was suspected but the Kyoto air is also equally suspect."
