"I took my brother to Japan, and I wanted him to experience a traditional "ryokan", and even though the IROHA Hotel has "hotel" in the name, it is very much a ryokan with tatami floors in the rooms, shoji and fusuma doors, and you sleep on futons. There is a communal bath in the hotel in addition to the "unit baths" (with commode, sink, and shower/bath) in the rooms. "I stayed in one of the rooms with the open air bath on the balcony, and it was one of the best views I've had at onsen. The room was great! I thought the men's public bath was a little run down, but still enjoyable. My wife thought the women's was very good and didn't mention any issues. I hope they can fix it back up because it's a beautiful hotel! I would definitely go again for the same room we had!"

"This place is falling apart at the seams. The property is old and musty with bugs. The food was passable but it’s one of very few choices in the area. The onsen bath takes literally hours to fill (8-10 inches per hour) and the location is so remote it takes several trains which run once an hour at most. Staff are lovely but avoid this place!! "

"Hotel experience was awesome. Located near the world heritage site and you can walk through them in a loop in less than 3 hours. Hotel provides a shuttle from the JR station (need to reserve in advance). We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel (excellent food). They take you to your individual dining room and served the set meals that way. Didn't like how checkout was at 10am. Wish it was at 11am and it would've made the logistic much easier "

"This was a very relaxing place to stay. There are hiking routes around the area. Recommend taking a stroll in the nearby mountain town. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Udon by the river, foot spas, all were amazing! Ask a local for directions on the Udon by the river. Quite the amazing experience."
