"I took my brother to Japan, and I wanted him to experience a traditional "ryokan", and even though the IROHA Hotel has "hotel" in the name, it is very much a ryokan with tatami floors in the rooms, shoji and fusuma doors, and you sleep on futons. "This place is falling apart at the seams. The property is old and musty with bugs. The food was passable but it’s one of very few choices in the area. The onsen bath takes literally hours to fill (8-10 inches per hour) and the location is so remote it takes several trains which run once an hour at most. Staff are lovely but avoid this place!! "

"Hotel experience was awesome. Located near the world heritage site and you can walk through them in a loop in less than 3 hours. Hotel provides a shuttle from the JR station (need to reserve in advance). We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel (excellent food). They take you to your individual dining room and served the set meals that way. Didn't like how checkout was at 10am. Wish it was at 11am and it would've made the logistic much easier "

"This was a very relaxing place to stay. There are hiking routes around the area. Recommend taking a stroll in the nearby mountain town. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Udon by the river, foot spas, all were amazing! Ask a local for directions on the Udon by the river. Quite the amazing experience."

"Thank you Nikko Hoshinoyado- we had a wonderful Japanese experience in Nikko and at the hotel. We are sorry we don’t speak Japanese, and that made little things challenging a bit. We wish we knew that for a best experience we should have booked dinner at the hotel because we did not find a single suitable place to eat within walking distance of the hotel (October 18, 2024). So we did not have dinner that night. Breakfast, on the other hand was fantastic. We also loved the Onsen experience....
