"Loved our stay at the Fairmont. I would definitely come back again. The staff made the stay so much better. not a lot of parking around. But the hotel has valet on the side of the building. 90$ overnight and other fees added. Overall great experience the hotel!"

"Stay away from here! Too dangerous. Never experienced anything like this before. The inn was surrounded with wanderers and trespassers shouting and fighting. The building/parking lot was dark with no valid lights. The office was closed, lights off, and vacant to the point that we did not attempt to get out of the car for check-in. Broken glasses in the parking lots and the roads surrounding. Safer to sleep on the streets by Ghirardelli Square."

"The Courtyard Marriott on Van Ness is a wonderful hotel. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere has a charming, art-inspired boutique feel. The rooms are comfortable and well-designed, with bathrooms that feature beautiful tile work and glass shower doors. While the surrounding area does have some homeless individuals, I never felt unsafe or uncomfortable. This is mainly an issue at night, but using Uber or other rideshares makes it easy to avoid any concerns."

I don't recall on the Hotel's description here on Expedia or on their own website that the deposit was $400 up front. I stayed for 6 days so that should have been around $170.
