APA Hotel & Resort Ryogoku Eki Tower
5/5 Excellent
"I stayed here for 9(10?) nights on my first visit to Tokyo. The location is great--right beside the Ryogoku station on the Chuo line, with connections to everywhere. There's a beautiful walkway beside the Sumida River both north and south, and you can easily walk to Sensi Jo/Asakusa. The Skytree is a bit farther but on a nice day a lovely walk. The Sword Museum, Sumida Hosukai and Edo-Tokyo are within staggering distance, as well as the mysterious Sumo arena. The Museum of Contemporary Art is not far either. Plenty of restaurants nearby at various price points (I highly recommend Bistro Ryumilu, which is tricky to find but fantastic.)
The hotel's Onsen in the basement is lovely. My room was small but fine for one (it would have been very snug for two.) There are bigger rooms, but I wasn't in any of them...
The city view is lovely and worth it, and the hotel's "hallways" are actually an open roofed courtyard--it was snowing inside one day and quite beautiful.
You'll read complaints about the elevators being slow--they aren't *wrong* but a bit overrated. I was only in a very full elevator once or twice, and never had two wait more than a couple of minutes. This too shall pass, and you'll be enjoying the sights of Tokyo soon enough.
I'd gladly stay here again if i came back to Tokyo. You could stay in Shibuya, Ginza or Harajuku I suppose but it's busy and noisy and expensive. I had a fantastic time and already miss the Sumida walk."
