"This lodge is a little outdated. Room is small. Shared kitchen is convenient. Close to Hilo airport. Very loud when plane pass by. Close to the beaches which are really good for snorkeling. Can see lots of turtles."

"The room was beautiful and relaxing. I wanted to spend time there! Everything seemed well thought out so the small details made it quite a special experience. The bed and linens were great, the fruit was lovely, and the coffee/tea with the table set was welcoming. I could warm up quickly if it got chilly, and the private patio with rocking chairs was a nice way to enjoy coffee at dawn. "

"This place is confortable and super well situated for visiting Volcanoes National Park, which was our goal. Hot tub is a great bonus. The place was nice and clean, but does not have much cookware. If you're OK eith this, it is a great rental."

"Our stay at Tree House in Volcano Rainforest was excellent. The host communicated clearly and was very responsive. The location is perfect if you want to visit Volcanoes National Park.The house is the top story of a structure and consists of two main areas. The downstairs has a front room with two couches and a small heater, and a small kitchen. There is a plugin hot plate for stovetop cooking, a small microwave, and a small toaster oven. "It was late at night when we got to this VRBO. The instructions told us to walk down a path that would be lighten but it was completly pitch back and we were walking in the middle of a rainforest. Once we figured out where we were, we typed the code and got the key. We walk in and the place is a mess. Dirty sheets, dirty towels all over, food everywhere, clearly not ready for us to be there. We text the property owner and he thankfully responded quickly. He gave us the code to the other room....

"This place was quaint but everything we had hoped. Loved the property and everything was perfect. Please note that this is 1 hour from the Volcano but it is well worth it to stay at this place. Will come again."

"Great location. We got there at dusk - tropical pathway lights didn't work - most were smashed. Hot tub was not "locked up" as supposed to be - and cloudy. Did not want to chance a UTI so - no tubbing which was the whole reason we picked this little gem. Sink clogged up, wallpaper paper falling off, possible black mold on skylight above bed. No batteries in remote. We left a day early. I hope they fix it up."

"This is a beautiful, large house designed and constructed in the 1930s for a wealthy Hilo family. The main interiors are dark wood, with original custom bannisters and similar craftsmanship, and the furnishings are period-correct. The present owners have upgraded in various ways, including adding in-room air conditioning (we didn't need, but it was nice to have the option), retrofitted bathrooms, kitchen, wiring, and similar. "The experience of staying at Kalani Oceanside Retreat was very relaxing and beautiful. We enjoyed the yoga class we signed up for very much. The people we encountered, both guests and staff, were great to talk with. The cottage we stayed at had lots of room and we had a fabulous view of the ocean and grounds around us."

"Lots of flair, well thought out property with nice extras (bug spray, cooler for day use etc). This was our ‘home base’ for visiting the east side of the island and it worked well as a place to sleep. Room is in a neighborhood area with a rural feel. Relaxing frogs and birds to keep one company. Great communication from the manager. Would recommend as an affordable place to stay when doing full day trips in the area. "

Anniversary Retreat

"The property is just as described. The views are amazing. The location is unique and eclectic. We enjoyed eating and listening to music during open mic at a bar in Pahoa. We also were able to spend a Wednesday night at Uncle Roberts bar and market enjoying the music and atmosphere that area is known for. The trip to the Volcanoes National Park is an easy hour drive and well worth the trip. This is a great location if you're looking for some relaxation and discovering Island life independent of commercial excursions and tours."

Idyllic Location and Lovely Home

"We especially enjoyed all the fans in every room and the nice large lanai, where we had breakfast every morning looking at the view of the ocean. This is a very spacious property and had lots of room for the three of us. There were plenty of windows to open when we returned after a day of touring around, which helped to dissipate the heat."

"Had an “erupting”experience. Spent time in National Park and saw quite a fireworks display right from Volcano House overlook Pāhoa met all of our dining needs and Uncle Robert’s was as advertised. Will stay again. "

Wonderfully elegant in a rustic environment

"The space was organic and lovely for my partner and I. The night skies were so beautiful due to the lack of light pollution and the property had access to the ocean across an interesting lava flow. Definitely a unique and wonderful location. People in the community were very friendly as well. Would recommend this location for adults wishing a romantic, peaceful, beautiful environment. "

"This was our fourth trip to rainbow dreams and it never disappoints.This is a great location with a fantastic view of the ocean. This time around, we did discover the sea turtles out front. They’ve probably been there every time before."
