"The place was super clean and comfortable. Close to the Kinugawa Onsen Station. However it’s a bit far if your main interest is to go see the shrines in Nikko. No convenience stores nearby. "Just a tip for those like us who are new to "no-receptionist check-in" stay-in/hotel/motel, make sure to check your email for the Room Number and Security Code. We got our "room information" via email, sent two days before the start of our stay. I highly suggest to arrive at location and check-in as early as allowed to give ample time to rectify any issues, and to pre-register/check-in. "This is a small hotel with limited hotel rooms. Some rooms need to shared bath. We stayed in a Japanese style room with a private bath. The room is not fancy but clean and confortable. The hotel is walkable distance to most of the attractions, only 2 min walk to Shokyo bridge, 15 mins walk to Toshogu Shrine, and 18 mins walk to Tobu-Nikko train station. The Heritage shuttle bus stop 7 is right in front of the hotel. "

"Amazing hotel with very kind staff. We were treated like royalty the moment we pulled up in our car. The whole arrival and checkin process was very efficient, and the we were offered drinks and snacks in the lounge. The buffet had a good variety of high quality food. The Onsens were very nice and well maintained. The room was very basic and quite dated (probably hasn’t changed much since the 90 s) but this didn’t bother us as they focus on service and quality overall. We really only slept in the room and spent the rest of the time exploring the area. Overall great stay and we’d definitely come back."

"The property offered a welcome respite from the hustle of Tokyo. Getting there is easier via express train but not necessary. You don’t need to bring a lot with you because they provide extremely comfortable clothes, slippers, and even socks while you’re on the property. Same with toiletries. They have everything you could possibly need. Excursions are wonderful but not necessary if you’re going there to relax. The food is beautiful and nutritious. There are limited snacks and drinks available if you need anything between the planned meals. If you do decide to do excursions, plan for the later dinner as getting around Nikko takes time. I suggest taking a taxi to and from the property if you have bags. But the walk to the train station from the hotel is downhill and easy—about 20 minutes. The staff is wonderful and friendly and is so very kind. They make effort to speak English but everyone mostly speaks Japanese. We visited during New Year and they had lovely celebration meals and decor to commemorate the occasion. It even snowed during our stay and the property somehow became even more beautiful. It was snowing when I went to the onsen and it was unreal. I highly recommend staying here. I would just book well in advance to ensure the time of year you would like to be there. I imagine that Fall is also a beautiful time of year to visit. "

"This is our second stay at this hotel. It has fantastic onsens, great Japanese buffet, and the rooms are large and comfortable. Kinu-Tateiwa Otsuribashi, a famous suspension bridge, is right behind the hotel that leads to great sceneries. Hotel is approximately 12 min walk to Kinugawaonsen Station, and offers shuttle bus in the morning to the station by request. Next time we visit Nikko, we definitely go to this hotel again! "
