Also, be aware that this is not in Nikko proper - and a bit tricky to get to - you need to take a Tobu Nikko train from Nikko to Kinugawaonsen Station.Be aware that the staff speaks VERY limited English so try to communicate with them ahead of time to plan. "The place was super clean and comfortable. Close to the Kinugawa Onsen Station. However it’s a bit far if your main interest is to go see the shrines in Nikko. No convenience stores nearby. "The staff was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable. There was common space to eat, and food available for purchase at the market. Only a couple places to eat nearby, town is 20 minutes away by foot and busses were not as readily available as we had hoped. There are three busses that take you into town in the AM and only three available in the evening to return to the hotel. Both are by reservation only."

"Over the food was nice, with great variety. The washroom has a sew smell. I booked the stay for a birthday and was disappointed they were do not have any special accommodation available even though I was willing to pay extra for. The onsen was only so-so."

"Thank you Nikko Hoshinoyado- we had a wonderful Japanese experience in Nikko and at the hotel. We are sorry we don’t speak Japanese, and that made little things challenging a bit. We wish we knew that for a best experience we should have booked dinner at the hotel because we did not find a single suitable place to eat within walking distance of the hotel (October 18, 2024). So we did not have dinner that night. Breakfast, on the other hand was fantastic. We also loved the Onsen experience....

"The hotel was very comfortable and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We appreciated the very comfortable beds after a long day of traveling and the convenience of the community kitchen and laundry facilities. The hotel is just a quick taxi ride from the station. We enjoyed staying here and would definitely stay again should we be in Nikko. "

Lovely Hot Spring Hotel!

"Absolutely wonderful room- king bed with private hot spring bath ( room 1127). Wonderful amenities, goodies, drinks in fridge, etc. spacious, clean, well appointed. Half board very fun! Discount tickets for Edo Wonderland. So much fun!! Only 30 minutes to Nikko sightseeing- we had a private driver take us around for the day. Highly recommend 3 nights! One to rest up, one to spend the day at Edo Wonderland, one to enjoy NIKKO. Very relaxing with history and culture, we really enjoyed this area! The hotel has lots of Japanese Princess dolls on exhibit! "

"The property offered a welcome respite from the hustle of Tokyo. Getting there is easier via express train but not necessary. You don’t need to bring a lot with you because they provide extremely comfortable clothes, slippers, and even socks while you’re on the property. Same with toiletries. They have everything you could possibly need. Excursions are wonderful but not necessary if you’re going there to relax. The food is beautiful and nutritious. There are limited snacks and drinks available if you need anything between the planned meals. If you do decide to do excursions, plan for the later dinner as getting around Nikko takes time. I suggest taking a taxi to and from the property if you have bags. But the walk to the train station from the hotel is downhill and easy—about 20 minutes. The staff is wonderful and friendly and is so very kind. They make effort to speak English but everyone mostly speaks Japanese. We visited during New Year and they had lovely celebration meals and decor to commemorate the occasion. It even snowed during our stay and the property somehow became even more beautiful. It was snowing when I went to the onsen and it was unreal. I highly recommend staying here. I would just book well in advance to ensure the time of year you would like to be there. I imagine that Fall is also a beautiful time of year to visit. "
