Dinner served in the room There is onsen on premise The hotel is somewhat older but that maybe part of its charm. We chose to stay in Japanese style room with tatami floor. "Thank you Nikko Hoshinoyado- we had a wonderful Japanese experience in Nikko and at the hotel. We are sorry we don’t speak Japanese, and that made little things challenging a bit. We wish we knew that for a best experience we should have booked dinner at the hotel because we did not find a single suitable place to eat within walking distance of the hotel (October 18, 2024). So we did not have dinner that night. Breakfast, on the other hand was fantastic. We also loved the Onsen experience....

Walk up hill past Saitoh Dental Clinic. Walk to end of high stone wall on right. Continue past grassy area on right. A 2nd stone wall begins. Take right at first opening and bear right. Gasthof Ami is the big house at the far end. "

"Charming ryokan. Onsen on top floor has separate bathing for men and women, lovely way to begin and end the day. The rooms come with half board, so a very special dinner and breakfast filled with Japanese delicacies. Location is convenient, it’s about a 15 minute walk from the tobu Nikko station but you can take the number 1 bus that leaves you a block or so away. Quite convenient to the attractions. Lovely mountainous view with brook from the window."

"Just a tip for those like us who are new to "no-receptionist check-in" stay-in/hotel/motel, make sure to check your email for the Room Number and Security Code. We got our "room information" via email, sent two days before the start of our stay. I highly suggest to arrive at location and check-in as early as allowed to give ample time to rectify any issues, and to pre-register/check-in. For example, in our case, we booked this December 2024 and it's snowing in Nikko, we arrived at our room...
