"Staff was over the top friendly and helpful. They allowed us to store our bags before and after check in/check out so that we could go explore Kyoto without having to haul our stuff around. They were also very helpful to help us acquire a taxi big enough for 6 and provide local restaurant recommendations. We were on the road side and so the rooms had quite a bit of traffic noise, but other than that everything was great. "

"The staff is stellar!! They go out of their way to make things so easy for you. After 26 hours travel time and a sick partner, they went out of their way to help me. "Matsui Honkan is our first experience at Ryokan. It was a fantastic stay. The staff were supper friendly. The served breakfast and dinner were not only delicious but also looked great in the presentation. The location of the property is excellent. Nishiki Market, Kawaramachi Street, Pontocho Alley are all within minutes of walking distance. I would recommend anyone who would like to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan. "

"What a beautiful property. Also, the Osen is top notch after a long day of walking. Nothing to do in the immediate neighborhood, but it is close to bus stops and the subway station. Would definitely stay again: the one negative I have is that the shower in the room is Mickey Mouse. It is not functional for an adult. "

"Nice that it’s close to the Umekoji-Kyotonishi train station which is just 1 strain stop away from the main Kyoto station. I also like that the place is clean. Our beds are cleaned and neat everyday despite the mess we left from such a busy day outside the hotel. Thirdly, I like that the showers have very good water pressure. It’s just too bag that we didn’t get to see and use the public bath they have. "

"Great stay! We enjoyed the restaurants: main restaurant, quick takeaway cafe, and rooftop bar. The room was cleaned everyday, even though we stayed multiple days. Easy walk to Gion’s sights. We used taxis mostly since it was a bit of a walk from the subway, but most of our trips were less than $10. Would stay here again."
