"This is a beautiful traditional hotel with lots of memorabilia from famous people who have stayed there. It is spacious and comfortable with many choices of restaurants serving a variety of foods. The only downside is in wet weather many outdoor tables/seating aren’t usable. We particularly enjoyed the high tea and watching the criminal lowering of the flag at dusk. All staff members are courteous and friendly."

"This was an an amazing find right in the centre of Colombo city. Many attractions were within walking distance or a short tuktuk ride away. The staff were really attentive and eager to please. The room, or suite as it was really, was fabulous; elegant and spacious, and included a small private courtyard area. "It was very acceptable for the price. The attendants in the restaurant were awesome. I went Scuba Diving earlier than regular breakfast hours and they were great to assist me with an earlier than normal breakfast. Overall the service was very good. And everyone tried. I didn’t like being asked to contribute $2 a day for environmental purposes as soon as I arrived. I was asked for my passport and then asked to donate money. Started me off on a sour note. "

The on-site Indian restaurant was excellent as was breakfast. Easy to walk around the area and just 5 minutes to Park Street for loads of good dining options. Wholeheartedly recommend Taj Samudra.
