"I am from the US, but I found this place after discovering through Ancestry research that the Lumley family is in my family tree, and I found this castle in searching them and I wanted to see it, so we came. Lumley Castle is a unique and amazing gem. There is so much history. The reception desk sells a book about the history, which is definitely worth purchasing. "It was fine, not exemplary. Some staff seemed a little fed up and lacklustre. Service seemed to be an effort for some. Others were really good. The chap who seated us for breakfast and then was serving drinks in the lounge late morning was brilliant, cheerful and attentive. The room was ok if a little tired. The split of sink and bath at one end of the bedroom separated from the WC was odd and the low windows meant having to keep curtains closed as faced either shower or bath. Odd layout. A few...
