"It’s just 4 miles from the Chiricahua National Monument entrance, so idea if that’s your destination. It’s rustic but very spacious and comfortable, with full bathroom and shower, kitchen, couch & easy rocker chair and 2 queen size beds. Eggs and butter were in the fridge plus coffee, tea, condiments, etc. Jenna the host lives next door and married into the family that mostly found and pushed for the creation of the monument. You’re in an old working ranch with good birding and many interesting historical artifacts. Jenna was full of info and very helpful. Truly and unique and wonderful place to stay."

"The hosts Rob and Sharon were fantastic and greeted us warmly. They’d offered to take care of anything if we needed it but the property was well furnished, well stocked, and had everything we needed to relax. If you’re looking for a place to get away, enjoy quiet, and watch the stars then this is an excellent choice. Just be sure you’re planning to drive as you’re truly away from it all!"

"I felt so at ease in this home surrounded by distant mountains. Everything I needed was provided. Loved the quiet on the sunny porch. Then there was the bonus of John sharing the night sky with his telescope and vast knowledge. Wish I could have stayed longer. "

"My husband and I needed a quiet weekend escape and this place fit the bill perfectly. Despite the chill outside, the house remained perfectly cozy. It's also a very reasonable drive from Portal and the Cave Creek area if that's your trip goal. Our host was great. It's the perfect place to get off the beaten path for a bit. We had no cellphone service, but the wifi worked great. "

"Property was as listed, it was clean and had everything we needed. We did run short of tp and grill propane the first night, but our host was quick to respond and took care of the isssue the next day. The bed was VERY comfortable and the view of the night sky amazing. "

"This was our second visit to the Painted Pony and it was again a delight for everyone from the four-year old, through the tweens and teens, my grown and married children, and for Grandma and Grandpa. Lots of space, lots of fun things to do (swimming, sauna, basketball, pool, ping pong, etc. It is in the middle of nowhere, which we LOVED! Close to the Chiricahua Mts with great easy and hard hikes. The hosts were very responsive also."
