"lili kyoto is not a typical hotel. It is small — three units on the ground floor, probably about the same on the floor above (I didn’t take the elevator up to check). It is totally unstaffed; to get in the front door you must obtain a code from the owner/manager. I got mine by having a nice lady in the Kyoto railway station tourist office call the owner/manager, who promptly emailed instructions. The front “lobby” and hallway are unheated. "There was a bunk bed (tatami style) and a wonderful experience. There was also a train and bus station near by, a 3 min walk away from the hotel. There was a traditional shop selling fried potato and chicken just around the corner, an easy stop for a quick breakfast. Just at the junction, there was also a western food shop and fruit stall.
