"FYI: They don’t tell you at the beginning when you check in but you must return all keys when you checkout or you will get charged $20 US per key. Towels are $40 US or they will charge you so make sure you count the towels and make sure to return them. We found out when we were checking out! Now the hotel itself it’s a beautiful place, Our booking included breakfast which which was great The service personnel in the restaurant were very kind. Cleaning crew were super nice and very lovely people. The ladies at reception were nice as well, except the men, very rude. They do have laundry service at reasonable prices and return them the same day so very convenient! "

"We loved the jungle-like setting of the hotel! It was so beautiful & our French doors with gorgeous wood blinds opened up to our patio where we could sit out & enjoy the sounds & the animals. We weren't able to book consecutive nights in one room during our stay so we changed rooms after 2 nights. The staff carried our luggage to the next room & took care of everything and it was seamlessly done by 10am. Michael had changed the settings on our smart tv in our first room so it was in English. The room for our next 3 nights did not have a smart tv and the management offered to install a brand new tv so we could watch Netflix at night! The staff were all so kind and greeted us by name whenever we passed by. Elmer was a chef & Emilie was one of the servers and bartender. Happy hour by the pool was wonderful!! We have already reserved our room for January of 2026!!!"

"I’ve stayed here before. It’s a great place, right on the beach. The studio suite was perfect. Very large and comfortable beds, s small kitchenette. Howler, capuchin, and spider monkeys visit the property all of the time. We say more monkeys at the hotel than around the parks. Only the smallest possible complaint. On the upper floor, some sort of nut or seed regularly hits the metal roof. It makes a bang. It’s not disturbing or anything, but it’s there. Don’t be surprised."

"Great hotel I will be back. My only complaint was the air conditioner. I feel like they need another. One for the size of the room was very hard to get the temperature down to a normal range. The staff are amazing and it's in a beautiful location. I will be back."

"What an amazing place to stay. Two pools, excellent quick and friendly service. I would put Makanda up against any other stay in Costa Rica. Absolutely beautiful in every way and an attention to detail that is hard to find anywhere to the level that Makanda delivers. "
