"Pros: 1. Location is super good as it’s close to the ski lift. 2. Bed is very comfy and room is big. 3. Breakfast is good! 4. Staff are in generally nice. Cons: 1. The front desk lady talks too fast! 2. No Yukata (bath robe) provided in the room even thou they have onsen (hot spring), that makes it hard to go to onsen. And the opening hour of the onsen is very limited, only form 4-9pm. 3. Room is kind of too hot and no control to adjust the air con or heat. 4. No socket in the washroom so...

"Singaporean family of 6, hard to fault anything. Most staff can speak basic English and attention is rendered to all appopriately, young and old. Onsen has different pool and some are not just warm enough for young kids to soak and enjoy. Food great Sleep mattress is Beauty Rest, futon might be alittle too thin for me but good for all kids. "

"Had a terrific relaxing couple nights. The best beds we've yet had to sleep on. Bedding was super comfortable as well. The included breakfast was great. Western style. Lake around the property is nice to walk, has several good food options. The 7-11 is an easy 10 min walk to get drinks and snacks. And the fellow at the resort gave us a quick lift to the train station for the next leg of our journey. Really enjoyed our stay. "

"It was a clean and functional stopover hotel in a smallish town at a shinkansen transfer station. Does have restaurant and public separated baths for nice soak after a days travelling. Staff were nice and friendly. I would go there again if in the area."

"Hotel Hanabun was a great ryokan experience! It is nestled in the mountains offering a peaceful getaway from touristy/crowded areas. It had the best onsen water, even the locals went there to bathe! The hosts and staff are all friendly and accommodating to your needs. Google translate was necessary to communicate, but everyone is very patient. The food was incredibly delicious, and they use locally sourced, fresh ingredients. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy ryokan. "

"We loved everything about this home away from home! Our lodge was clean, well equipped and warm with plenty of space for us all to spread out. Haydn and Saki were amazing hosts, and looked after us so well with wonderful food, advice and transfers. Recommend you stay here! "

"It was great! Onsen and hospitality were outstanding. They drove us everywhere which was great with kids and ski gear. Ski lifts are within easy walking distance. Sleeping the whole family in the same room is the only thing you need to consider and we managed it well. "

"Staff, food, game room, bedrooms, outdoor hot tub, and amenities are over the top amazing and comfortable. Everyone was so kind and went above and beyond making our 4 night stay an epic ski week experience of a lifetime. We made new friends and had everything, and more even, than we needed. "I knew I wanted to snowboard at Lotte Arai Resort but I read that it was in a very small town and basically only the resort buildings so i picked this spot because they offered a free shuttle to the nearby mountains. (Not Lotte though its a 40 minute drive and I had to get a separate bus. It was very easy though and the owner was able to help me figure it all out. "We were picked up from the train and immediately got a ride to the monkey park, a major reason for our visit. The hotel then sent a shuttle to pick us up and return us to the hotel where our luggage had already been taken to the room. This was a more traditional place with shoe removal and slippers provided. Dinner was incredible despite my not loving a few of the items in the set course menu. Breakfast was equally fulfilling. We did not take advantage of the public onsens due to our short visit but did use the private onsen in site. At the end of the stay we were driven back to the train station for our departure and given a small token of candies. An excellent stay!"

"Awesome location! Walkable from Yudanaka Station. Has a shuttle service for pickup and dropoff to the station. Short walk to the bus stop to the Snow Monkey Park. Breakfast buffet is decent. Right next to a brewery if you want to try some local crafted beer. Rooms are nice and big. 2 public onsens and also a private onsen is available. Downside is the kaiseki dinner option may not to available so prepare to plan for dinner elsewhere. They have a do-it-all-staff, this one receptionist was checking us in/out, driving the shuttle van, and communicating in English~ impressive."

"The area around the property was absolutely beautiful and charming - but maybe because of the time of year we visited (1/06-1/08), very few places were open, despite their signs claiming what their hours of operation were. Even when we found a restaurant that was open at 6pm for dinner, multiple restaurants turned us away because we have a six year old daughter and they didn't accept kids. It was pretty upsetting to my daughter, but the area was absolutely beautiful."

Great hotel in Shibu Onsen

"Loved our stay at Shibu Onsen Kokuya and would highly recommend. They made the trip into the mountains and to see the snow monkeys very easy - with transfers included and bag drop to the station. The traditional dinner and breakfast were a great experience. Also loved the variety of onsen’s available within the hotel itself - and private Onsen with your room if you want! "
