"The hotel is old and in disrepair but everything works. The food is just adequate but the open bar with beer, sake, wine, shochu helps. The onsen was fine with one large rotemburo outside and three large baths of varying temperatures inside. The service was great though, the staff always greeted you with smiles and were very helpful. It’s a 23 minute walk uphill from the train station or an 800 yen ride by taxi. "

"Amazing hotel combined traditional with modernness. We had a large tatami room with regular beds and a Japanese futon bed. It was large and comfortable. Breakfast was Japanese style which we loved. Our daughter however, can not get past eating rice and fish for breakfast. The hotel is not conveniently located, not easily walkable from the train train station. The hotel offers a shuttle bus that takes you to and from train station but stops at 5 pm. You will have to take a taxi, if you return...

"We had a really nice stay, the staff were extremely accomodating and helpful, despite our extremely limited Japanese! The room was clean and spacious, with many amenities provides. Beds were very comfortable, and we slept really well. We'd recommend this hotel for anyone after a more traditional experience"

"We had the most incredible stay here while visiting Hakone. The location is ideal: a 2 min walk from the main train station and right on the river. Waking up to the sound/view of the river is just magical. The team working here is incredibly nice, hospitable and accommodating. We did the half board and the food was delicious and varied. We asked for our meals to be vegetarian and we were served the most beautiful kaiseki style spread in our room. A special thank you to Yuki who took care of us...

"The stay at Yamagaso was a unique experience. I recommend doing the half board as the Kaseiki dinner and the breakfast were fantastic! We also love the private onsen and the convenient access to the other onsen at the hotel next door. "

"My friend and I stayed one night and wish we could stay for longer. Lovely staff, nice private onsen and there is a restaurant on the first floor and rooms are on the top floor, the restaurant is a bit pricey but food was delicious. Overall, wonderful stay, highly recommend."
