This hotel offered breathtaking views of the lake. My husband and I opted for a room with a private open air bath which was amazing. Note though that the bath only fits one person at a time, and there is no view of the lake which was disappointing. Instead we faced a weird parking lot.
The staff is very kind and go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. The food has good options, but it is the same dishes everyday. The free wine and beer was a nice touch!
Some tips on the area: there is not much immediately around the hotel. You will need to take the bus or ropeway to access other things. We LOVED the open air museum which was a 30 minute bus ride away.
The hotel offers a shuttle from the train station to the hotel (it’s about an hour away) Make your reservations to the train station in advance! We were unable to get a reservation because they were already booked. We ended up taking a bus to and from Shinjuku (Tokyo) which was really easy because it was a straight shot to and from the hotel.
Lastly, I was surprised how many small children were at the hotel. There were several that were loud and screamed a lot during our dinner, and then breakfast the next morning. We didn’t love that since this was supposed to be about rest and relaxation. We spoke to the staff moved us to a quieter dining area.

Liked: Staff & service, amenities
Close to Togendai, so good positioninf. I’d love to leave a better review but the room had a sewer smell to it, which ended being a lot more nauseating than we initially thought.
Despite that, good service and staff, and great food
We had an incredible experience using the public onsens eating ate the delicious buffet with a various wonderful Japanese foods. It was so fun getting to dress in the kimonos they provided in a variety of colors and designs. Magical place overlooking the majestic beauty of lake Ashinoko.
Great place to relax and unwind at the public bath. Very clean and great food also, would recommend to anyone looking for an onsen. Not so much a Ryokan however.
Such a lovely stay! I have never been to a hotel like this. Every little detail was taken care of, and the views were impeccable. Stayed for two nights and it was gorgeous. From the terrace footbaths, morning buffet and private onsen, our needs were taken care of and it was just a lovely serene location. It was also very near the Hakone Ropeway and Hakone Sightseeing Cruise...ten minute walk!
Brilliant venue. Stunning views, Onsen and the baths on the balconies of our rooms were awesome. Great stay highly recommended. Two small suggestions for improvement: Allow new guests to pre-book their dinner time as we arrived late and the had to eat really late; clearer advice on travel time/shuttle options from Odawara. The trip from Odawara took 2.5 hours because it was weekend. Only small suggestions not criticism as our stay was wonderful.
