"We arrived after dark via taxi and were surprised at the incredible location and architecture. This is an authentic Japanese experience— tatami floors and comfortable futon mats!! We knew we would be magically surprised in the morning and we were! It’s nestled up on the hillside with an incredible view of Mt Fuji! "The in-room mineral bath was so rejuvenating. The shuttle service to near-by train stations was convenient. The meals were “out of this world” scrumptious and unique to Japan salmon, tuna, barracuda, etc). The staff were kind and gracious (and busy). This place is a gem! If I ever find my way back to this area, I will definitely return!"

"This was a cosy, comfy stay for 1 night. Although the owner couldn't speak English, and I can't speak proficient Japanese, the communication worked with the help of translation apps. Although it was snowing outside, the heating in the room warmed us up quickly. Note to say that the walls are quite thin, as you'd expect in a traditionally built Japanese building, so you can for sure hear other guests snoring. Didn't bother me at all though. Was a nice stay. "

"The staff are very accomodating and very welcoming. They picked us up from and sent us to the train station for free. They offered us ( 5 people) a ride with a ¥2000 fee to lake kawaguchi. They also offered to pick us up from the Fujikawaguchiko masjid back to the guesthouse for the same rate later that night but they did not turn up . Instead, they told us to get our own taxi as they have picked up another customer. Luckily we got a help from the masjid cafe staff who called a taxi for us. We...

"Loved the stay at Kounso. The room was spacious and had extra bedding that could be used to fit your preference. I was not sure about the shared bath, but each room reserves time slots, so you do not bath with strangers. I loved the cypress bath, it was perfect after a long day. I chose not to use the room heater because of the kerosene smell. Instead, the kotatsu table kept me plenty warm for this time of year. "This ryokan is very conveniently located beside a bus stop, which makes transportation easy around the hakone area. They also have a shuttle bus to gora station. We had the room with private onsen, it was so amazing we were speechless! Our half board included kaiseki dinner with crab and japanese style breakfast, which are also 10/10. The whole experience was delicate, the service was attention to detail oriented. The only thing I wish they could improve would be the noise while dining, the sound of the staff walking and handling the plates, as well as one particular staff talking very loudly. "
