"We found the property clean but lacking, certainly not "Superb". The decor was sparse e.g. bare light bulbs. Negatives Bathroom: no mirror, no towel rails, only one hand towel in the property for three. Kitchen: Two sets of knives & forks for three, no large glasses or wine glasses, no fire blanket/extinguisher, no downstairs smoke alarm I could spot. "Pros: Really good communication from host. Decorated nicely. Log burner (extra charge if using hosts logs). Milk in fridge. 8 minutes drive to Beamish museum. 4 minutes drive to a really good play park and splash area, by the river. Comfy beds and bedding. The accommodation was really clean. Shower heats up quick, large shower head. Dog bowls and biscuit treats - nice extra. Cons: Oven was broken by previous guest (on request, host was really good at providing air fryers). "Great affordable student accommodation. The space was exactly as advertised. The kitchen worked well, and i was able to prepare my own meals. Excellent wifi and plenty of outlets in the space. One of the best accommodations I've stayed in, and far better than even my own university housing."

"The hotel property is quite unique set in a former council building especially the bar and restaurant which are located in the former council chambers. The most striking feature of the hotel however is the excellent service provided by all of the fantastic staff. The location is unbeatable allowing you to easily explore the city centre and the river walk. Many excellent restaurants and coffee shops are within 500 yards and the city attractions are very walkable from the hotel. "

"Reception on arrival and departure efficient and friendly .Delighted to be offered a room upgrade which enabled riverside view Only meal we had being breakfast was fine, full English buffet style you can have as much or as little as you want ,with helpful restaurant staff Daily room house keeping excellent The hotel position is perfectly situated for all town amenities "

"Great overnight stop with the most friendly and helpful of staff. Facilities excellent and being able to bring our dog was so good. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast options were just right for us. Will definitely stay again. The price was also the best value for money you could ask for. Could not recommend more."

Treated Royally

"Staff exceptional, esp Dale and Ashley. They took marvellous and personal care of us. The Castle itself is showing its age. The mattress in our room needs replacing. We had a suite in one of the towers, which was huge, with a massive sitting room, but it was at the very top, only accessible by stairs, so unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. The evening meal and cooked breakfasts were delicious and cooked to order, a rare experience in this day and age."
