"Overall the place is a nice quiet getaway in the woods. Be prepared for lots of DIY when it comes to the sauna and all other wood burning stove fires. An issue for concern, if you stay in the Shire Suite, the front room is solely heated by the wood burning stove and the ventilation is very limited. VERY smokey throughout our entire stay. Also there’s a tin roof so if it’s raining (it did our whole stay) the noise is REALLY loud making it almost impossible to sleep. Pray for no rain at night....

"Our family group of 10 has come several times in the winter. Beautiful house and location. The great room with huge fireplace and view of the Blue Ridge is perfect for hanging out in the winder, and the big and well-equipped kitchen is excellent for big family dinners.This time, a big winder storm presented some winter challenges, and the host did a great job of making things right. "Beautiful home with a well-stocked kitchen, gorgeous views, plenty of space, and 30 minutes from Harrisonburg (where many of my group went to college). Host was responsive and even helped me get my jewelry back that I accidentally left behind. "

"There is a lot of charm in this property and this room! Note that the heater in the room struggles to keep up with the cold during the colder months. It was 60 degrees when I woke up one morning, and the heater had been running non-stop all night. Unfortunately, I didn't try the sauna, but it looked awesome!"

The house was perfect for a large group, not only for sleeping, but also as a base for visiting old UVA haunts, as well as dining on the downtown mall and main street (We walked to both locales - perfect location!)."
