"We had a great stay over New Year’s Eve. The staff were welcoming and the rooms were excellent. The spa facilities were on the small side and lacked a decent space to sit, but we still very much enjoyed them. The only let down, as others have said in reviews, is the food. It felt basic in comparison to the rest of the facilities and service received elsewhere."

In making them affordable for the mass market compromises have to be made and with the Palace Hotel this shows in some of the areas of decor. The ‘Spa’ was a limited experience- a small weights room, an excellent steam room and sauna but the pool was cold and there was no “jacuzzi”. "Lovely overnight stay. Only complaint was that the room was very cold when we arrived and took eight hours to heat."

"An overall pleasant stay. However we were put off by 3 men who complained about our children playing in the pool ( during the only 2 hours a day that the children were allowed in there ) It then turned out that the men complaining were waiters in the hotel. Due to these unpleasant staff members we wouldn’t return. "

"An unusual and historically interesting house. Our stay was fabulous. The buffet cooked breakfast was disappointing as the fried eggs and mushrooms were dry and the latter over salted. Had we been told at our arrival at the restaurant that there was an option of a bespoke cooked breakfast, we would have chosen that. Otherwise a lovely overnight stay and the staff were friendly. "

"Corridors & hotel room tired e.g. torn wallpaper, scuffed table. Receptionist accused me of not paying for dinner the night before where I had to provide a credit card statement as proof of payment as apparently the till receipt wasn’t suffice & the Waiter didn’t provide a pdq receipt. Fantastic facilities & grounds & felt very festive!"
