"First the positives, near the station, large room for Japan, surprisingly comfortable beds and good soft lamp lighting in the room. But that’s where it stops. Bathroom needs updating but functional, so not that bad. But carpets and chairs worn and stained, layer of dust on shelf behind bed and room cold - evidently aircon worked but heating not working- I was frozen in bed and had to wear a down jacket to warm up. Oh, and they wanted to charge extra for a second pillow to supplement the tiny one...

"The best part of our stay was the bedroom location. We had shakara room which is in the front and most private. There are rooms that have to walk either across the temple for shared bathroom or right next to the bathroom where there may be more noise. Not a fan of the only one bathroom. And water provided would have been nice. Showers have to be scheduled on time board since it is shared. Nice host and clean. Towels need improvement. Quality and quantity. "

"Loved my stay (in the female only dormitory) - the bedroom, shower rooms and toilets were soo clean, very impressive. Did not use the kitchen much, but was not able to find green teas or coffee - maybe I just did not know where to look. Met friendly fellow travellers . Front desk host helped me with my luggage (rooms are upstairs) This place is great, quiet, and located near Hida No Sato - BUT rather far from downtown Takayama. I missed the bus from and to the station… and had to lug my ever...

"The owners and staff were very warm and welcoming. However, the structure was old and a little tired looking. Our sleeping room only had one electrical outlet with a lamp plugged into it. This made charging our iPhones and tablets difficult. Also, the one larger onsen was never available during our 4 day stay. Perhaps a sign up sheet with a 45 minute time slot could help make the onsen available to more visitors. On the positive side, the ryokan was well located a short distance from the train...
