"What a wonderful little place. Myself and my daughter stayed here for 2 nights. There is nothing not to like about this place. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful, the room (No.6) was really nice, with a wonderful shower. We had breakfast, and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place, as it is close to York also. Would definitely love to return one day. "

"Delightful and quiet location and yet easy to get to all the main attractions of York city centre without the need for a car or taxi. The room and the bed were very comfortable and breakfast was really excellent. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the property is well appointed just like on the photos. "

"The single room was comfortable, clean and pleasant. It had tea making facilities, a hair drier and iron. The en suite was of a good size and private. The only draw back was the shower - it had little water pressure and the shower hose was a poor fit. I had a key to a separate entrance which gave me freedom to avoid the bar and flexibility to come and go."

"It was a convenient location. It was good to be able to leave the car outside the guest house, and for it to included in the price. My husband and I enjoyed the views from the bedroom window overlooking the bay. However the bedroom was smaller than we expected. The staff and customers were friendly. We expected our 'own' bathroom to be in our bedroom, as opposed to being on the landing next to our bedroom. "

"Very easy to find given the directions from the hosts. We received a very warm welcome from Richard who explained everything we could possibly need for our stay. "Property was perfect for the price. Clean and welcoming. Shower was nice and the bed was comfortable. I was able to get in touch with the management on arrival. Tap in the ensuite was cold and despite running for a while, did not produce hot water. The building was subject to some noise pollution and you could clearly hear other guests in other rooms. Other than that, I would book again."

"Just back from South Lodge and want to say thank you very much to Steve & Tony. We arrived early and the rooms were ready, they were spacious, clean, beds were comfy the decor was lovely. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of and not for the fainthearted. Parking at the property spot on as you dont always have that luxory. "Emma contacted me unprompted to see what time I would be arriving, which was a nice courtesy. Enjoyed a nice slice of homemade cake with my tea upon arrival. Nice touch! My single room was ideal for a solo overnight stay. Comfortable and warm. Excellent breakfast included plenty of tempting options, all served in the spacious breakfast room. I would highly recommend Waves."

Grand Hotel York

"Visited for our 32nd wedding anniversary and was not disappointed. Booked a classic double room but when we arrived were informed that they upgraded us to an executive room which was really large and immaculately prepared. We had use of the spa facilities if needed for additional cost but free use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna for 1 hour per day which made for a relaxing time after a long walk around York. Breakfast was really nice with a large choice of continental and cooked items. Our morning waitress, Millie, was extremely helpful with all of our requests especially with regard to help with the afternoon tea menu. "

"Lovely hotel and staff. Location is great - in a safe residential area and walkable into the town. Our courtyard room is a bit noisy from other guests’ bathrooms, backs onto a private resident’s garden. No window views unless you stand and can see into their garden(!). Overall, a very nice hotel, comfortable."
