"I've lived in Thailand for years, had a rental car on this trip and am familiar with Chiang Mai. I very much enjoyed our stay at Centara. Earlier reviews stated that this property was run down. It appears to me to have been renovated very well. Our rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. Reception and restaurant/coffee shop were very nice (though over priced). The surrounding area had some -- but few -- restaurants, shops, massage businesses, coffee shops and convenience stores. ...

"The main downside is that the traffic outside prevents walking into the old city or night market. This is a major disadvantage. Also many of the day trips outside the city will not pickup at the hotel. The staff of the hotel were wonderful"
