"Our one night stay at Shirasagiyu Tawaraya was wonderful! We requested pick up and drop off at the station and this is pretty much necessary unless you take a taxi. The driver was very nice and found a tiny pin that came off my backpack without me even knowing it was missing. This is the type of attention to detail that is fantastic about Japan! The gentleman who talked us through check in and gave us info on meals, baths and so on was helpful, kind, and also funny. We LOVED our room and amenities. We got one of the newer rooms with access to a lounge with coffee, tea, soda, water, juice, and some alcohol. There was additional space to relax and take in the river and forest view. And it had a message chair. We used that a lot and only saw one other person enter the lounge to get a drink during our time there. Our room had a partial outdoor bath and it was wonderful. We also reserved and paid an additional fee for a 45 minute bath that had an indoor and outdoor. So glad we did this! The ryokan is on the river and we spent some time walking the trail. It was beautiful but there was remaining snow and quite a bit of water so had to be careful We did not find any open shops so decided to just focus our time relaxing in the baths and massage chair. If we would have spent a second night we would have looked harder for some local shopping areas and restaurants. We had dinner and breakfast at the inn. It was very good and the staff was fabulous. We enjoyed our relaxing stay!"

"We loved our two night stay here! We had just stayed a few nights in ryokan, which we love but it was nice to have a couple nights in a very nice and comfortable hotel room. We booked a corner room with windows on two sides over looking the station, mountains, and city. We also paid for the breakfast buffet. Both choices were so worth it! Only additional things I wish were in the hotel are a public bath and laundry room. The staff was fantastic, the building perfectly located for quick access to trains, buses, and taxis, which are very necessary here. Restaurants and all kinds of shopping nearby. There were even stalls set up outside and inside the mall across the way for local vendors. Fukui is fabulous! We booked the Dino Liner and Prefectural Dinosaur Museum ahead and these were the main reason for our visit. The Hokuriku Arch Pass is very worth it and gets you out of some of the normal tourists spots. We would visit Fukui again, stay at the Marriott and enjoy more of the city and surrounding areas. "The hospitality was truly brilliant. We don’t speak Japanese and the staff were so helpful and patient. The breakfast and dinners were the best meals we have ever had. We are already dreaming about the flavors. One person in our party is very allergic to fish and is a vegetarian - they were so thoughtful and creative with the substitutions - she loved everything! The private onsen was also an amazing treat - nothing like a hot dip on a cold night looking at stars and bamboo forest. We would definitely recommend and return! The town is also just a short walk away (and lovey through the walking path through the park). Just a lovely, dreamy, stay."

"We enjoyed being able to watch the river as we bathed in the open air bath. Plenty of amenities provided, staff was super friendly and helpful, and room was lovely and spacious. Japanese breakfast was huge and delicious and it was wonderful to try some regional specialities."

"This was my first hotel in Japan. Great value for the quality of the stay. The location has plenty to offer in a walkable distance, including close proximity to the Shinkansen (bullet train). I staid here to be able to visit Daihonzan Eiheiji. The bus to Eiheiji temple is at the transportation center where the Shinkansen and other trains depart. "
