"Our room was clean and comfortable. It was a good size and set up for a family as we needed. We were disappointed that the spa was closed, an odd decision to close the spa at the weekend when travellers are most likely to want to use it. "We stayed one night with our dog. I was a little doubtful on what the standard of room would be like due to us having a dog. The room was a good size, very clean and smelt pleasant. The grounds were also clean and plenty of small grassed areas for the dog to pop out. We stayed for breakfast which was hot snd tasty. All the staff where helpful and friendly. "

"Nice place for a short stay. Staff were great. My Sisters check in took along time, well past 3pm. Still not checked in by tea time. Only down side was no electrical power points nxt to bed. I had to run extension cables which could of caused an accident getting up in the middle of the night."

"Good, solid place. It really is a monastery with large grounds and impressive buildings. Welcome was very friendly and helpful. The property is dated, but in fairly good order. Bed was good. "A brilliant stay. We've stayed at this hotel 3 times now in recent years and it's always a delight. The hotel itself is a magnificent building with marvellous architecture which includes a fantastic main staircase. Parking was convenient and the staff were everything you could ask. No problems in recommending, we're already talking about our next visit we yet have to plan."

"Ideal location close to attractions, restaurants, and Shambles Alley. Great room size, very clean, staff polite and helpful. 24 reception gave a safer feel to our stay and the added bonus of starting each day with English breakfast. Would book again!"

"This was a great stay for 2 adults and 2 children. Despite there being a sign up on arrival that there was a private event with music till midnight… I didn’t hear a thing, the rooms are nice and quiet, the pool was lovely to wind down in after a busy day, and the breakfast was great, plenty of choice, fresh and was replenished often. Parking is £7 for each night, and there is a bus stop on the opposite side of the road just outside the hotel to take you into York, the bus’s are every 15 minutes and we purchased a family all day ticket for around £9.60 which was super convenient, overall a fantastic couple of days was has by all! "
