"This particular hotel is for people that are mainly self sufficient I wouldn't suggests it if you cannot mentally operate independent of being accompanied. the local area is amazing I'm a small town kinda guy theirs a brewery if you have the time and walk you'll hit the coast for a really good breeze. The hotel itself Is quiet and staff as well as other guests are nice. But I'd recommend this hotel if your a foreigner that can operate off your own mental agenda with little to no assistance...

"This hotel has a small hot springs bath. Because it's small you need to follow rules but rules in English are posted everywhere. Washing machine with detergent is free. Dryer is only 100 yen for 20 min. Very nice little town "

"Hotel was very close to the North Exit of Numazu Station and easy to find. There’s a Lawsons,7-11 and McDonalds near by. Very quiet hotel and the staff was nice and helpful. We would stay here again when we visit Numazu"

"Good value for the price, room was clean, staff were nice but the elevator needs a good clean. The air conditioning should be turned on in the lobby, it was like a furnace in the reception when we arrived but the hallways and rooms were nice and cool. Lots of parking…."

"The entire experience in this hotel was amazing, the gentleman at the reception was very nice and helpfull. The room was amazing and the location was perfectly close to everything. They also offered traditional japanese PJ during your stay which is amazing. For sure coming back in our next trip to Fuji."

"If you’re going to Mt Fuji, then try this side of the mountain and stay at this place. This ryoken (traditional Japanese Inn) has everything a ryoken would typically have, but also an onsen on the first floor. Having a bath in the onsen after seeing Lake Yamanaka and Mt Fuji on your front steps is something I'll never forget, and cant wait to experience again. One caveat is that the amenities in the room are small, but not really an issue. As for entertainment or good places, you’ll have to go around the area - there is a conbini (convenience store) around, but also a dining area with several restaurants. We tried a couple and they were great! Be prepared though for the lack of english speakers in this area. Honestly it's not an issue, just use the tools at hand to communicate and you’ll be fine! I known I'll be staying here again in the future!"

"The place was beautiful. The owners were also extremely friendly, they offered to drive us to any restaurant in the area if we didn’t want to eat at a place within walking distance. Breakfast was also delicious and traditional. They also helped us get a bus reservation to our next destination and drove us to the bus stop. Highly recommend!"

"House was dirty to include a bag in the sink with fruit flies under as soon as I moved it. Some black things in the bathtub. Mini oven was just dirty. Multiple other things but could have been better. I would highly recommend to get another fan because it was really hot. Last thing is finding it. It was dark out so I know it made it way harder but the map on the app and address and direction pamphlet all said different things. Took me an hour to find the place. I almost booked another hotel. "

Peaceful and relaxing

"Loved the stay at Kounso. The room was spacious and had extra bedding that could be used to fit your preference. I was not sure about the shared bath, but each room reserves time slots, so you do not bath with strangers. I loved the cypress bath, it was perfect after a long day. I chose not to use the room heater because of the kerosene smell. Instead, the kotatsu table kept me plenty warm for this time of year. The location was very close to plenty of food and lake adventures. The owner was very helpful and friendly, even though I only knew a few words in Japanese. I visited alone, but I hope to bring my whole family for our next visit."
