My husband and I found this trip, and Chelem in particular, very interesting, but a little too relaxing. The condo itself was lovely, but because of the high winds coming off the water, that created a lot of salt and sand everywhere. The bed was very comfortable, and the A/C in the bedroom worked great. The couple of days we used the A/C in the living room it couldn't keep up to the heat. Huge area to try to cool. The grounds and pool were great.. The maintenance man kept everything clean and looking beautiful. The condo is located so that you can walk for ages along the sandy beach in both directions. We took advantage of that every day. Great water for swimming.
Chelem itself was a disappointment to us. The hours (or lack of) for restaurants and the lack of amenities in town was a bit of a shock to us. Luckily there were a couple of great restaurants nearby that we were able to go to for a margarita and/or wine a few days a week when they were open. The few times we ate out were excellent. The fruit/veg stands in town were great for the basics. And luckily there was one liquor store to buy rum and wine as no one else carried anything but beer. The Monday Farmers market down the highway a ways was a huge bonus. We were able to get beef (the carne store in town didn't carry any beef), sausages, some homecooked meals, farm fresh huge eggs, and fabulous veggies. I ended up cooking most nights.
We definitely had a relaxing stay, but 3 weeks in Chelem was a bit too long for us,
