"I recently spent 3 nights at the Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan and loved it. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. The whole experience from the room to the food and onsen gave me a really good insight in to Japanese culture. Property is very central, close to old town and restaurants. "The hotel is dated which needs refurbishment. But the amenities offered were good. The Japanese style room we stayed was spacious which can fit in 7 futons. We had half board during our stay. The food served were amazing and looked beautiful which was beyond our imagination. Though the property itself offers only smoking rooms, we as non-smokers didn't find it a problem at all. And parking is free. We would definitely recommend it."

"A beautiful room with lovely room wear and a daily cleaning service. I loved the onsen and was lucky that it was available each time I went down. I think it would make it more accessible if there was a sign on the door for women to share, men to share, or occupied for family / private. "

"The staff speak English or Mandarin hence communication was a breeze for me. They were very friendly, helpful and polite. The location of the ryokan is within walking distance to the town and close to the train station. Hotel provides a bus shuttle to the train station. From the train station to the hotel, there is also a complimentary ride. I had a very pleasant stay at the ryokan and highly recommend it. "

"If you see this review. Just book it if is within your budget. They take care of everything once you stepped into Gero station. Jus hopped into any Taxi waiting at the station and your retreat begins. We stepped into the inn and didnt think of going any where until our check out time. "

"This is a big hotel in Okuhida onsengo area, having amasing baths (onsen). We came for both the springs and the winter illumination experience and we had both. Loved it. The outdoor baths (shared) are great. We also tried hida meet as well as local hotel specialities, like turtle soup and caviar, highly recommended. I would love to come back one day."

"Good stay and my second time at this hotel. Only downside is that there is no other facility provided in this hotel. Mainly stay and onsen. Feel kind of lost whenever I am at this hotel."

"We had a really wonderful time at Wanosato experiencing winter and snow in authentic Japanese setting. The staff were really welcoming and made our stay special, every detail of our stay was taken care of. We had the half-board with dinner and breakfast included. Really tasty dishes and tailored for us. Will be looking forward to visiting again."

"I came to Gero on a recommendation from a close friend. I somehow missed it when I had done a previous Takayama trip and I am glad I came back. The town is very small and the hotel is easily walkable from the station, some people say 15 mins but it was more like 8-10 mins and that was while stopping to take pictures of the Hida river. "Visited for a trip around Lake Suwa and oh boy, this hotel is something special, I had the private onsen in the room and it was one of the most relaxing part of my trip in Japan. They also offered public a onsen for hotel guests and you can also book that to have that one private. Over all can't recommend this hotel enough, staff was friendly and breakfast was excellent if you want a taste of a traditional Japanese meal. "We spent two nights at this hotel in a Japanese style room. We found the room comfortable and spacious. I very much enjoyed the public bath in the hotel and visited AM and PM for a relaxing soak. The hotel is a quirky mix of modern and traditional and we appreciated this.We had a wonderful breakfast buffet each morning in the hotel restaurant and the staff was always gelpful and kind. We found everything very walkable to this hotel. The station, castle, art museum, shopping, restaurants and coffee/tea/sweets are not far. We would definitely stay here again and we really loved the vibe of Motsumoto!"

"Stayed at Onn Nakatsugawa for a night before doing a day hike of the Nakasendo trail. The hotel is a short walk from the train station with various restaurant options nearby. The room itself is well appointed and spacious. There is also a public bath to relax in after a long day of traveling and being on your feet. A great experience overall."
