"I came to Gero on a recommendation from a close friend. I somehow missed it when I had done a previous Takayama trip and I am glad I came back. The town is very small and the hotel is easily walkable from the station, some people say 15 mins but it was more like 8-10 mins and that was while stopping to take pictures of the Hida river. Great location for the hotel, close to everything. The Onsen in this hotel alternate between male and female daily so you will have a chance to experience both...

"This hotel has its own onsen and we loved it. We all were given traditional Japanese robes to wear throughout the hotel (in the dining room as well) and that was really nice. The staff were amazing and patient. "

"A cozy homey ryokan just 3-minute walk from the Gero train station, the location is excellent. The meals were delicious and the service was impeccable. The room, however, was a little dated. The insulation wasn’t good so it could be a little chilly at night when it was snowing outside. The outdoor onsen was enjoyable. I will definitely come back next time I visit Gero. "

"We loved our stay at Ryokan Sansui. The view of the mountains around the hotel were amazing with tri-colored foliage. The staff were also very lovely and kind. The food was also delicious and more than I had expected. Communication wasn't too easy, but the message would get across. The best part was, of course, the onsen (hot spring) experience. "Booked to stay here for an authentic Ryokan Onsen experience on our Japan holiday. This was our first time at both a ryokan and an Onsen so we don’t have an awful lot to compare it to on those aspects. However, the positives of the hotel were that the staff were very friendly and happy to help. They spoke a small amount of English and were happy to try to assist when needed. "We had a really relaxing stay here. For the price we paid, the food and service were exceptional. There were two private onsens that can be reserved, each with its own charm. Additionally, there is a bus stop right next to the ryokan, making this a convenient base for exploring the region. Would highly recommend it!"
