"I came to Gero on a recommendation from a close friend. I somehow missed it when I had done a previous Takayama trip and I am glad I came back. The town is very small and the hotel is easily walkable from the station, some people say 15 mins but it was more like 8-10 mins and that was while stopping to take pictures of the Hida river. Great location for the hotel, close to everything. The Onsen in this hotel alternate between male and female daily so you will have a chance to experience both...

"What an amazing hotel, staff greeted us outside the hotel and knew who we were even though we didn't tell them what time we were arriving. They checked us into our traditional Japanese apartment complete with an outdoor onsen, but not before my girlfriend got to choose her Yakuta to wear. The apartment was amazing, tatami mats, paper screen windows, floor tables and chairs. The onsen was fantastic, and the outdoor shower was a great experience. "Lovely views from the public baths (separate for men and women) to the lake. The decor was dated but the room was comfortable and the food was good. A beautifully presented Japanese dinner and a choice of Japanese vs. western style breakfasts. "

"Nagataki was better than a hotel stay. We stayed for one night before walking the Nakasendo. We had our own little Japanese cottage set in a lovely garden. Meals were served in our cottage and were simply amazing. The food presentation was a work of art and absolutely delicious and inventive. The onsen was beautiful and had a gorgeous view out to the garden. The staff were so lovely even though not a great deal of English was spoken. We were picked up and dropped off at Nakatsagawa station....

"The staff at this property and surrounding businesses were all extremely helpful! We were first time travelers to Japan with very little Japanese comprehension and the staff were able to communicate well in English. The traditional breakfast and dinner were both very delicious and you can tell the chef and wait staff all enjoy their work very much. Our waitress was extremely understanding of us not being used to the cuisine and was extremely helpful if explaining dishes and the order of things...

"Absolutely amazing stay at this Ryokan. We stayed one night as part of a 3-week Japan trip and it felt like a holiday within a holiday. Everything impeccable, friendly service and fantastic comfort. The meals were out of this world good, our room had a private Onsen which was amazing, but there's also an outdoor Onsen which you can enjoy at pretty much any time. Lovely stay!"
