"The property and surrounding areas were beautiful covered in snow during our Winter visit. The hotel provided boots so we could easily get around in the snow. The man who was at the front desk during our stay was knowledgeable of the area and kind. We had two rooms and both were clean and comfortable throughout our stay. "

"We loved everything about this home away from home! Our lodge was clean, well equipped and warm with plenty of space for us all to spread out. Haydn and Saki were amazing hosts, and looked after us so well with wonderful food, advice and transfers. Recommend you stay here! "

"Love the hotel and the staff. We had such a great time and would definitely return. The staff is nothing but great and helpful. They take the extra mile to make sure we have a great stay. "Uotoshi Ryokan was amazing! The host was super nice, the meals were fantastic, the room was great. The area is perfect, it's a great place to get away from the city for a bit. It's a bit in the past, but in a really nice way! Our room didn't have a washroom in the room, we didn't mind. "

"The hospitality (service and meals) at Shiganoyu Hotel were amazing. While we did not speak Japanese and the staff did not speak English, they used a translation tool for conversation and didn't let that be a barrier. "Had a terrific relaxing couple nights. The best beds we've yet had to sleep on. Bedding was super comfortable as well. The included breakfast was great. Western style. Lake around the property is nice to walk, has several good food options. The 7-11 is an easy 10 min walk to get drinks and snacks. And the fellow at the resort gave us a quick lift to the train station for the next leg of our journey. Really enjoyed our stay. "

"Pros: 1. Location is super good as it’s close to the ski lift. 2. Bed is very comfy and room is big. 3. Breakfast is good! 4. Staff are in generally nice. Cons: 1. The front desk lady talks too fast! 2. No Yukata (bath robe) provided in the room even thou they have onsen (hot spring), that makes it hard to go to onsen. "We stayed here and were impressed with the service. It is primarily a ski hotel and we needed to transport our baggage down the slope at an early hour...the staff willingly did it by tobaggan. This is a traditional japanese hotel...witg futons and communal bathing area which was fun to experience. Snow monkeys were fun to see."

"Rooms were clean, staff was helpful, location is good. Over all experience was good. Only suggestion is it would be helpful if travellers are provided with shuttle service from bus stop to hotel. Though the distance is less, with thick snow, carrying heavy luggage is extremely difficult. Also request to add some vegetarian food options."

"Location is beautiful but inconvenient as there are no restaurants close by or convenient stores. There were many different types of smells, all unpleasant, as you walk into reception, the bathroom, the hallway and your room. The pillows were made of wheat and were incredibly small and uncomfortable. The futon beds made you itchy and were quite thin. "A great base to visit the snow monkeys. A beautiful and traditional onsen. The breakfast and dinner was served by older ladies that did not necessarily speak English but definitely kept trying to make it an amazing experience each time. The variety of the served food was just overwhelming. So delicious and always something freshly cooked right at your table. An opportunity to stay at traditional Japanese tatami room is a memorable experience. Free pick up from the railway station. "

"What really made our stay special is kindness and attentiveness of the staff. We had large suitcases, and though the train station was a five minute walk, the front desk manager noticed us struggle walking uphill and came to our rescue with a hotel van, loaded and unloaded our bags. The dropoff service was not included, and we did not ask for it. He did it out of compassion and kindness. Very touching. Food was delicious! Do book dinner if its available. We had a traditional tatami room, which was cute, though a bit dated with some tears on the faded couch upholstery. The shower was very small, which is expected. We were lucky to have a private shower as many ryakans make you share. Great experience overall."

"We were picked up from the train and immediately got a ride to the monkey park, a major reason for our visit. The hotel then sent a shuttle to pick us up and return us to the hotel where our luggage had already been taken to the room. This was a more traditional place with shoe removal and slippers provided. Dinner was incredible despite my not loving a few of the items in the set course menu. Breakfast was equally fulfilling. We did not take advantage of the public onsens due to our short visit but did use the private onsen in site. At the end of the stay we were driven back to the train station for our departure and given a small token of candies. An excellent stay!"

"The area around the property was absolutely beautiful and charming - but maybe because of the time of year we visited (1/06-1/08), very few places were open, despite their signs claiming what their hours of operation were. Even when we found a restaurant that was open at 6pm for dinner, multiple restaurants turned us away because we have a six year old daughter and they didn't accept kids. It was pretty upsetting to my daughter, but the area was absolutely beautiful."
