"I HIGHLY recommend this hotel and visiting Matera in general. The staff spoke great English, were onsite and were very friendly and personable. We were welcomed with a personal sign outside our door as well. It was walkable to everything you needed. "Our accommodations were lovely. Enjoyed the spa experience. Nice breakfast too. Located in Sassi halfway between the top and the bottom of the hill. I would estimate 100 steps either up or down. Be aware in order to have dinner or sightsee you must go up or down! You also have to carry your luggage. Would not recommend for anyone with bad knees. You can do a tuk tuk tour of Sassi instead and stay on top. It is a lovely town."

"The property is in a great location on the edge of the historic old town with views just outside of the valley and caves as well as the historic church of San Pietro Caveoso with the Casa Grotta. Breakfast was very good also. Just bear in mind that the property is in the city restricted zone so we had to park around 0.5 miles away and walk with our bags - would have been good if the property description mentioned this as well as pointing out where you can park. Maters is a fantastic little place...
