"I've always wanted to stay here but haven’t been able to because its always been full. Having now stayed there, I understand why as this place is excellent. We received a very friendly welcome. The communal areas and room were spotless. The hotel is quiet - it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. Bed comfortable, bedding clean, bathroom spotless. Tea, coffee, milk, hot chocolate, and kettle in the room. Central heating worked well and the room was cosy. Good pressure from the shower....

"Funny little place. Rooms upstairs in a pub but dont let that put you off as pub is only open 3-8pm. Kitchen wasnt doing breakfast which would have been handy to know before i turned up. Very convenient for the city, with free off street parking which is a rarity in york. Room was clean and comfy. Wpuld stay again for the price. "

"After reading some of the negative reviews we were very pleasantly surprised. Staff were helpful and attentive and actually went above and beyond. Overall the property is a little dated and and in one of our rooms the tv wasn't working properly and in another the the lightbulbs needed replacing but it's clean, the beds are comfy and it's close to town. Would definitely stay here again."

"A great welcome by Karen into their stunning home with tea and biscuits in the residents sitting room! Our bedroom was very well furnished and excellent taste in decor with pieces of antique furniture. Very comfortable bed, super large bathroom with amenities. Wonderful breakfast selection in an amazing dining room… the Cornmill is a unique and fascinating property with the mill water wheel on show through a secure glass viewing area! "Emma contacted me unprompted to see what time I would be arriving, which was a nice courtesy. Enjoyed a nice slice of homemade cake with my tea upon arrival. Nice touch! My single room was ideal for a solo overnight stay. Comfortable and warm. Excellent breakfast included plenty of tempting options, all served in the spacious breakfast room. I would highly recommend Waves."
