Nice cooling hike in Ecuador’s highlands

There are several rivers of varying difficulty in Tena, Ecuador. I'm not sure the name of this river, but we had all class III and IV rapids. It was a great day out -- about 4 hours to get down the river.

"Everything at the lodge was good but could have been great with improved communication. Our family of four arrived at the same time as a group and we were offered the options to joint their tours on an expedited schedule (four days of activities in two days). We joined them for the full day Napo tour and really enjoyed the day but we were very rushed and had no idea what activity was next. "We ended up staying here for a total of almost 2 weeks. We would stay here and then check out to go do treks in the jungle, but then always return to this hotel. The property is beautiful, kept in perfect condition. Everything is very clean, there is always hot water. They have a free baggage storage service, that's nice. "In the middle of the jungle. Show doors can open to be emersed in the jungle. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of options and dinners were reasonably priced.We had a 2 bedroom suit which was very expensive. The grounds are amazing. Unforgetable experience. Friendly and accomodating staff."

"We loved it here. Such an amazing place. It’s remote, but the signage was good and our driver found it. Probably best to get there during the day. We took a chocolate making class and went on the night walk in the jungle. It is an eco resort, so don’t expect hot showers, which is usually a deal breaker for me. But the place was so nice we were very happy we stayed here. "

"Staff was comparable to a 5 star hotel. Great spa, sauna, steam room and heated pool. Very close to airport, we walked to the hotel, about 12 minutes. Shuttle service about every 30 minutes or less. We took the Shuttle back to the airport. They recommended a private tour to a volcano, museum, and middle of the Earth. ($90 for 2 of us, Dec 2024) Room was specious and so was the bathroom. Very clean. Had a decent hairdryer, iron, ironing board, sitting area and cable tv. Breakfast offered a wide variety of fruits, breads, meats, eggs oatmeal and juices/coffee/tea. Restaurant offered menu or buffet for dinner. We loved it! It was on a busy street, but still not super noisy. We will definitely stay again. "

Hotel Rincon de Puembo, BW Signature Collection

"The property is beautiful, the staff friendly, and when my husband and I had to leave at 4am to catch a flight, they had box breakfasts prepared for us. At most hotels, incredibly more expensive hotels, if you have to leave at 4am when the kitchen is closed, you're just SOL. Imagine my surprise when they offered that little treat! I would definitely return and highly recommend. "
