"Had room 4 on the ground floor. Spotlessly clean & a massive bathroom (accessable). good quality linen and towels. Only drawback for me was that there was only coffee from a pod machine & no milk. Would certainly return when in the area again. "

"This is our third stay at this lovely Victorian hotel. It is ideal for us when visiting our daughter who lives close by. The hotel staff are very polite and friendly and the restaurant and bar serves top notch food and drinks. I am knocking off one star as our room was very cold on this particular stay. The bathroom was huge but had no source heating at all. The bedroom itself was also very large but with only one radiator which was fixed under a large single paned window behind a curtain, thus...

"The hotel is a basic, no frills but highly welcoming place. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The owner and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was good and excellent value for money. The location ideal for all manner of destinations. "

"Good location for us half a hour from the ferry port. Room size ok for us. Overall the room was a bit tired and could benefit from an update. The items we noted were:- One failed and one failing light bulb on the main light made the room a bit dim. Wobbly toilet seat Plug in the washbasin was not attached and was difficult to use. "We stayed over for a family meal occasion. The service, welcome and meal were all excellent. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The room was also nice and quiet. The only thing that could be improved, and I did mention this at reception, was the lack of suitable electric socket near a mirror, the hairdryer supplied in the room did not reach the mirror meaning you could not see your hair whilst drying it. "Having had a 3 hour drive down, we were greeted with a smile and two delightful rooms. Crisp linen and a smile. Food was fabulous (try the scotch eggs). Beer was good and the conversation was great. Will come back when visiting family. Fully booked for Sunday lunch so make sure you book if coming to stay. Judging by the 3 courses we had well worth booking"

"It was comfortable & room quiet after a long drive. service was reasonable considering the staff were stretched during an afternoon party. People were generally pleasant and did well. Pity no food on offer on a Sunday night but since it was a central location there was plenty on offer locally."

"This hotel is quirky and old which adds to the charm and character. Some parts are dated because they are listed and have great history. 1920’s lift! Winston Churchill chair. We loved these additions. It is clean, well presented and staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. They explained our options for room, checked we were ok on higher floor and offered to show us how to get there. (Some areas are a bit warren like to get to (part of the charm). The room was large, clean, comfy beds, well stocked with tea/coffee, toiletries and towels. Big comfy pillows, warm room, TV etc. The water pressure was challenged (explained in bathroom notice - due to old plumbing and high floor) but adequate. It got warm but not hot in shower. Drunk singing guests woke my daughter around 1am and the windows let all noise through. Noisy traffic and bin men woke me at 6am. These are not the hotel’s fault but a consideration if you are a light sleeper. The beds were really comfortable and we easily got back to sleep. It was hard to leave the beds for breakfast, but we are glad we did. Again we were met by friendly welcoming staff, explained the buffet available and asked which drink we would like. All delicious and plentiful. A large range of cooked breakfast, cereals, pastries and fruit and yoghurt on offer. We had a brilliant stay and will come again. The hotel is right on seafront and near The Lanes. Parking available. Awesome. "

"Loved my two night stay. My room was one of the newly renovated rooms and it was lovely. I was on the fourth floor. Looks as if they are working their way around the rest of the hotel but there was no noise or disruption. The reception staff were very friendly and overall the hotel added something special to my short stay in Brighton. "
