"This is a truly beautiful house with long views down to Lucca and olive groves all around. It is well-furnished and we slept really soundly. Massimo, the host, is extremely gracious and offers many great ideas for local activities and day trips, and once you find it the local supermarket is very well stocked. Having said all that, there are two "buts" to determine if this is the right fit for you. The key one is that "steep, winding, and narrow road" indicated in some comments is an understatement of the case. If you are not an experienced and confident driver with a relatively small car, you're going to have a challenge. The road goes from one lane to less than one car width, there are no shoulders, and the dropoffs are steep. It is very unlikely that a car service would agree to come pick you up. Issue #2, which is related to that, is that either you cook quite a bit in the well-appointed kitchen or you stay out for lunch and dinner (meaning drive up the hill in the dark). It is a good 20-25 minutes to anywhere and you get to navigate the hill both ways. We would go out for the day, enjoy an Italian lunch, pick up supplies for dinner, and head home to cook and enjoy that. (Issue #3: if you are a crazy cat person, use your common sense and do not feed the feral cats that roam the mountain as the people before us did.) Again, we very much enjoyed our stay once we figured it all out but you need a small car and you better be a good driver."

"Absolutely wonderful. It was what I imagined a Tuscan Villa would be and more. It is private with spectacular views. The inside is roomy and comfortable with beautiful vaulted wood ceilings throughout. The kitchen was well equipped with everything I could think of. The pool is great with a gate that keeps children safe. The terraces with cushioned seating were perfect for lounging. The beds were very comfortable. Nice washer and clothes line. Highly recommend."

"Happy to recommend Simona's property. An excellent location as a base to visit the surrounding area and beyond...and just to walk out of the door and enjoy walks in the immediate locality. A very comfortable apartment to return to and spend time in... it's a great location in Aquilea. Supermarket close by... and a ' negozio alimentari' and bar in Aquilea ( unfortunately the owners went on holiday the day I arrived, so cannot comment further ). Simona is very helpful re local information and potential sightseeing. "

"Beautiful location with great views from the house. House is very spacious with very tradition Italian furniture. Plenty of seating, dishes and cooking implements etc. Bathrooms were well equipped. Pool was lovely with ample loungers and the grounds were well kept. The gym wasn't up to much, but we were there for a holiday, and the table tennis was great for the family. The only thing to be aware of is that the driveway is very steep in places with a sharp bend in it - we had a long estate car (Skoda Superb) and could not get round the bend in one go."

We stayed here for 5 nights in early August and it was perfect Beautiful location among the hills, private pool and bbq facilities, everything you need Things to note - the nearest shop is about a 15 minute drive away and the drive is not for the faint hearted! We got lost on the way because we didn’t use the right link that the hosts provided for us Other than that if you want to fall in love with Italy in a stunning location then stay here! "Just amazing property Lucca was lovely. The road leading to the house was no joke its really off-road. I had a rubbish car and it made it but you need to have some vague confidence. Pizza night organised was really enjoyable had a smashing time. Id say the house is definitely child safe but for a really active 1 year old we found ourselves constantly having to monitor him every second he was awake. But it’s defiantly manageable really nice stay and well worth the visit. "
