"A bit small room, but great location"

"It was a pretty basic old hotel. Nothing too fancy or notable, but also nothing to complain about. For the price, it was a nice stay (slept two nights). Note: hotel is older, with that old carpet/wood smell. Wouldn’t say it’s a 4* hotel, but decent for a good rest. "

"It was a present stay, nice hotel, large room, nice garden. However, last year we stayed in Japanese room in Art Hotel (the same building) it was much newer. This suisui room is very nice but bathroom a bit damp and scary for kids. "

"Nansuikaku is a beautiful ryokan in a village location. The food was top quality, breakfast and dinner. Having a bathroom and onsen in the room was a good way to go for the shy foreign traveller, but they also have access by booking (40 min per day) to the family onsen which is good for couples wanting to experience onsen together. We travelled to the location by local bus from Fukuoka and continued on to Beppu by local bus and train - so the isolation is not a problem if you have time."
