Funnel Steps, Middle Duddon. Funnel Steps is the second grade IV- rapid on the Middle River Duddon, where a boulder garden drops the paddler down four steps into a small gorge. Either side of the top boulder is possible, after which one runs near the centre, avoiding some of the stoppers to maintain speed to get through the bottom, river-wide one. This top section is only grade 3, the sting in the tail being the entry to the gorge just ahead of the paddler 1229990.
