During most, maybe all, the hours of darkness, the light was on outside and could not be turned off from the room. I suppose this is to make the hotel look attractive from a distance. However, this means that the view you pay for ends up being obscured by light and reflections. Fat chance of seeing Northern lights when you have light pollution right above your head.
