"It was fine, nothing special or terrible. We never received the check-in email, but luckily someone was onsite to let us in. That was literally our only interaction with staff. Walk across the bridge to get into town, and if traveling with kids, there is a cute little park with exact (but scaled for kids) replicas of many of Portugal's (and it's current and former colonies) most famous sites, almost across the street. "I have never stayed at a hotel where I never saw any of the staff. Letting myself in was strange but it worked. I missed having someone to ask questions. It was quiet. There were some cafes right next to us. The main bridge into old city was blocked for a bike and running competition. "

"DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. From the listing, it looks like a proper place to stay, but in reality the door handle was completely broken when we reached. They messaged us to go to another room, and it was full of flies. The floor is uneven, there are no screens on the windows and no air conditioning, so you just have to have flies all over you. And that's if you don't mind the dogs barking and church bells from two different directions ringing every half hour in your window. It is completely false...

"The place is good enough for the price but, the rooms have no mosquito netting on the windows so you can't sleep with the window open. We got badly bitten in the night by mosquitos and there is no aircon as expected for the price, the room did not even have a fan. We went home a day early because we did not want another night. "

"The house is a beautifully redone schist structure in the center of Talasnal. All the comforts of home; nicely stocked kitchen, great fireplace (heated the whole house), comfortable beds, and nice hot showers. Great hikes just walking out the front door…although we did get lost the first day. Haha. Both Joao and Alda were super responsive and so helpful. Even offering to pick us up in Candal after our very long misplaced hike. Definitely purchase any supplies before arriving as the tiny Mercado...
