"Not much to do around the area and there are rumors of it being in a not so good area of Santiago. I would challenge that claim since I walled all over the place even at dark without feeling any kind of threat. There is a very excellent Chinese restaurant next door which I highly recommend. As a Dominican raised abroad I chose this hotel for its historical value. As a tourist you'll be charmed by the decor and the charming staff.
