"The Lotte Arai Resort exceeded all of our expectations on our recent 2 day getaway to the mountains. We only learned about this resort because it was affiliated with the Ikon pass, but we will certainly return for our next snow adventure in Japan. The location was beautiful and less than 2 hours from Tokyo by shinkansen. There was a convenient hotel shuttle that provided door to door service from Joetsumyoko station to the hotel. The check in process was flawless. We stayed on the 5th floor of the Lodge building in the most spacious hotel room I've ever encountered in Japan. The beds were extremely comfortable and the room conveniently connected to our kids room next door. Restaurant reservations were a snap to get online. The Japanese restaurant AKIRA had both an extensive Japanese buffet for breakfast and a tasty local set menu for dinner. Restaurant HA NOI was fine but not up to US standards for Vietnamese food. The ski/snowboard rental process was quick and easy. We were able to reserve snowboard lessons online without difficulty, and our friends were able to join the group lesson with only 1 days prior notice. The Village Station food court had modern Japanese standard fare that hit the spot after a busy morning on the slopes. There were so many other nice details provided at Lotte including: the Christmas Market where we had a nice Irish Coffee, the Christmas Cake, the pool table and darts, and best of all, the Onsen."

"We enjoyed our stay at this onsen hotel. The staff were very accommodating and made us feel welcome, and we were able to use the private onsen, which was refreshing after a long day. The only downside was that the room smelled strongly of gas due to the gas heaters, but we adjusted to it. The best part was waking up to a foot of snow! Very beautiful. "

"Great blend of modern amenities with traditional ryoken hotel. Welcoming and hospital staff. Beautiful surroundings and atmosphere, specially during winter. Close to snow monkey park. Just wish there was more hooks to hang the towels. Overall great stay and highly recommend. "

"Very quiet and relaxing Ryokan in Yamanouchi Onsen Town. I think I was the only person staying here at the time. I had the Onsen all to myself for the night I was there and I wish I had booked one extra night because the Onsen was very relaxing. The staff/owners are super sweet and wonderful people. They even offered me a ride up to the snow monkey park entrance when I arrived. The rooms have an excellent view of the mountains. Hot water and tea cups are waiting in your room when you arrive. The thermos' last a long time because I still had hot water in the morning for a tea on the balcony to watch the sunrise. Breakfast is basic continental. The fruits were super delicious and the bread for toast was fresh baked. The mattress was comfy and cozy, I fell asleep within minutes of laying down. Highly recommend staying here for a night or two if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway in a cute mountain town."
