"Our first time in Hawai’i, and this place was one of the highlights of our trip. Surrounded by lush forest and secluded, it was the perfect getaway. The central location on the island allows for east access to everywhere. We will definitely be talking about/recommending the volcano mist cottage to others. "

Aloha Suite: Watch Whales, Breakfast included at Ala Kai Bed and Breakfast

9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (15)
"Thanks to Erich and Suzy for making our short stay as cozy as possible and helping us figure out plans. Between plane delays and terribly rainy weather, our volcano visit was mostly a washout. But the rooms were very cute, the nice big bathroom was helpful to have with all 4 of us, and the breakfast was delish. Thanks again!"

B&B: Kipuka Twin Suite 5 mins from Volcanoes National Park

9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (11)
"Being a child of a native-born islander I treat my visits as a birthright, a chance to learn more about my island roots. My family emigrated from the Philippines to Kauai and eventually settled in Oahu. I had never been to the Big Island so when my sister suggested we visit I said OKAY. (BTW, she’s basically a local, having lived here for over 30 years). The stay at Lava Pond Lodge was PERRRRFECCCT! The hospitality was unmatched in our opinion, rooms and common area very comfortable and...

Volcano Eco Retreat by Heart Core Hotels - Adults Only

3.5 star property
9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (15)
"This resort is no longer open, however we were not notified by E prior to arriving onsite after booking well in advance. Luckily the staff were very nice and explained the situation, but we had to make last minute accommodations to stay elsewhere which was not fun after a long day of traveling. Lesson learned: either book directly or confirm bookings outside of Expedia since their notification system is not reliable."

B&B: Ohia Loft Suite 5 mins from Volcanoes National Park

10.0 out of 10, Exceptional, (2)
"Very nice place, location is great for a visit to the Volcano area. Owners were timely and helpful with our request for information. Although we did not get to meet Sarah, she was on vacation, her lovely aunt Lila filled in. The breakfast in the morning was great, with a lot of delicious options, the fruit bowl each morning was awesome. My husband fell in love with the sandwich maker and it started the day off wonderfully. There was no coffee maker in our small room but Lila found one for me as...

Luxuriously Appointed Bali Temple Has 160 Degree Ocean Views!

9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (114)
"The Bali Temple is a nicely appointed upper-story of a charming house on the SE shore of the Big Island. It has all the "equipment" necessary to hang out, cook for yourself, read, relax. Excellent internet. Washer/Dryer on premise (but, be warned, no TV). Great view of an amazing lava field, and beyond that, the ocean.People younger and more spry than us were out walking on the lava field; it's a short walk to the ocean. Folks were fishing, and actually coming home with fish! There's no beach...

HomeOnTheLava~ Ocean & Volcano Views ~Sleeps 8 ~ Momma’s Oasis

9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (93)
"We stayed with our kids (6,8) for 4 nights. We deliberately chose this location as we visited this region in 2009 when the Kilauea lava was flowing. To stay on top of the old lava flow was a special feature to show the kids. The location is very remote, the next shops a 15min drive away. A few more houses have been set up around the property, meaning we never had an encounter with the ‘grumpy neighbour’. The path over the lava field is quite easy to follow and was an interesting activity for the...
