"We were picked up from the train and immediately got a ride to the monkey park, a major reason for our visit. The hotel then sent a shuttle to pick us up and return us to the hotel where our luggage had already been taken to the room. This was a more traditional place with shoe removal and slippers provided. "A great base to visit the snow monkeys. A beautiful and traditional onsen. The breakfast and dinner was served by older ladies that did not necessarily speak English but definitely kept trying to make it an amazing experience each time. The variety of the served food was just overwhelming. So delicious and always something freshly cooked right at your table. An opportunity to stay at traditional Japanese tatami room is a memorable experience. Free pick up from the railway station. "

"The rooms had a classic "Showa era" style, which gave them a great atmosphere, and were quite spacious for two people. The onsen was on the small side but clean and nice, with a pretty outdoor area. There was a lounge area with free drinks, nuts, and dried fruit. It was a decent value. I'd stay there again."

"The hospitality (service and meals) at Shiganoyu Hotel were amazing. While we did not speak Japanese and the staff did not speak English, they used a translation tool for conversation and didn't let that be a barrier. "Loved our stay at Shibu Onsen Kokuya and would highly recommend. They made the trip into the mountains and to see the snow monkeys very easy - with transfers included and bag drop to the station. The traditional dinner and breakfast were a great experience. Also loved the variety of onsen’s available within the hotel itself - and private Onsen with your room if you want! "

"A beautiful Ryokan. We were welcomed with kindness and hospitality. They brought our luggage to the room, provided us with yukatas and offered amazing traditional food. The private baths were the highlight and we will miss them greatly. Highly recomend. "

"We enjoyed our stay at this onsen hotel. The staff were very accommodating and made us feel welcome, and we were able to use the private onsen, which was refreshing after a long day. The only downside was that the room smelled strongly of gas due to the gas heaters, but we adjusted to it. The best part was waking up to a foot of snow! Very beautiful. "

"I knew I wanted to snowboard at Lotte Arai Resort but I read that it was in a very small town and basically only the resort buildings so i picked this spot because they offered a free shuttle to the nearby mountains. (Not Lotte though its a 40 minute drive and I had to get a separate bus. It was very easy though and the owner was able to help me figure it all out. "The staff is welcoming and kind, this is a family run business for 6 generations! The half board breakfast and dinner are exceptional, kaiseki style and every dish is presented beautifully. "Great place, newly redone, very clean, everything you need in the place, right near one of the ski gondalas, near to Libushi taproom, near the main village Street, and great pricing on skiing gear. Definitely recommend!"

"Friendly staff, we arrived very late on the first night, they arranged snow mobile to pick us from the carpark and checked us in quickly. The outdoor private hot tub is just what you need after a day of skiing! "

"Upon arriving at the hotel, I realized I left my belt bag which contained everything important (credit cards, driver license, passport, literally all the money I brought). There was a female staff with a fringe who was so kind and patient. She helped me track down the train we were on and followed up with the train staff when it had reached its final destination. This was around 12 pm since we wanted to drop off luggage. We got back to the hotel to check in on the status of my bag and she informed us it was at a city 1 hr away by Shinkansen. She looked up the departure/arrival times for roundtrip and we were able to get it same day. When we were in our room dropping off our luggage first, a male staff who was also looped in called and said they'll bring up a note to show anyone at the station directing where our bag was. Less than a minute later, that same man was at our door OUT OF BREATH. I was so shocked because he came up insanely fast. That's amazing service!!! We also wanted to ship 1 of our 2 large luggages to our hotel in Tokyo. They were able to take care of that and the cost was extremely reasonable. The room itself was large compared to other Japanese hotels I've stayed in. Everything was in working order and there was ample bathroom counter space which I love. Clean as well. Location cannot be beat. Right next to Nagano Station/direct access to the station, and right by the bus stop too. Very near a Donki and many eateries. Highly recommend. "
