"At first I was hesitant about booking to stay at Nant Ddu lodge hotel due to some of the reviews I have read. However upon arrival I was extremely impressed with this hotel, the staff on the reception were super helpful and friendly, the room and bathroom was beautiful, lovely and clean as well as the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was great, great selection of cold foods as well as hot. The hotel is in a fantastic location, only a 5 minute drive from Pen Y Fan and very local to the four waterfall walk which was awesome. The spa was lovely, pool, sauna, steam and jacuzzi was most enjoyable and very clean. Overall super impressed with our 3 night stay and will definitely be returning. "

"Love the Metropole.. the staff are excellent especially Spencers Brasserie staff .. food fabulous .good menu and very attentive staff. Lovely spa facilities .. good bed linen .. could do with better coffee in rooms and biscuits, also no non alco cocktails in bar.. but still had the best of times"

"Wonderful stay whilst we explored Hay on Wye for a few days which was a short drive away. Very comfortable and clean and lovely cooked breakfast although not much continental selection. Had an open fire inside the entrance where you could sit and relax. We managed to lock ourselves out of our room leaving the key inside and the property were contacted easily and they gave us a spare key to get back in. We would stay again. Only tip for staying is to book restaurants nearby and research in advance as we struggled on the Sunday to find somewhere for an evening meal lots of local places stop serving Sunday lunch at around 3-4pm. There is also a lovely garden centre with a restaurant a short distance from here. "

"My partner and myself had a lovely stay. The staff are very friendly , polite and professional , with nothing being too much trouble. The venue itself is on a hill with lovely view of the surrounding fields. It has a olde worlde feel with beautiful oak beams as part of its pub features and brass adornments on the wall. The bedrooms are clean and inviting with full tea and coffee making facilities , TV and shower and we had a good night's sleep waking up refreshed in the morning. . We partook of their dining facilities the night we checked in ,, having an evening meal , their menu choices were excellent including venison and rabbit dishes to name but two and the food was mouthwatering and delicious . Their prices are very competitive providing value for money We also ordered drinks with a pint of Ale and a cider coming to under £6 a round. .Morning breakfast which is included in the price had a good choice of cereals , toast , cooked breakfast , coffee, tea, orange juice , we opted for cooked breakfast and coffee and were not disappointed. Checking out was as easy and effortless as checking in we simply handed the key back . It is the second time we have stayed at the Rhymney hotel and we have plans to stay again in the not too distant future "

"Stayed for two nights as was attending a family funeral. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The bed was comfortable and the room and toilet were clean. Hotel was warm throughout, breakfast was very good and the bar prices were very reasonable. "

"The room I stayed in in this beautiful building was possibly one of the most beautiful I have ever stayed in. However when it came to the service of the staff there was a lot left to be desired... and this was in no means the fault of the staff of which there were only two... to run the bar and service the needs of the guests. I did feel that it was odd that every time I called the hotel before arriving that there was never anyone manning the phone, but regardless we were not put off. If I was to visit again, I would want to know that I wouldn't have to wait at an empty bar for 12 minutes before being served (I know the 2 staff, one of which was a trainee) were busy with the dining but at £270 a night, that isn't good enough and not my problem... I don't wish to seem petty but lots of other short comings occurred like being first into the dining hall and one of last to have our order taken, waiting until the end of our starter before our drinks arrived and taking far too long to reseat us when my wife couldn't read the menu because of the dim light. I get that there was only two staff and there were 10 couples in the dining room but this is a failing from a managerial point of view which I definitely didn't expect from such a seemingly highbrow establishment. "
