"Booked a standard room with air con via Hotels.com, but upon arrival, we were given a room without AC & were forced to pay $20 for something we had already paid for. The owner refused to correct the issue &was extremely rude. Despite clear advertising, the issue was not resolved. "I had the misfortune to arrive by bus from Managua on a rainy day. I thus had difficulty in finding the Hostal. When I did, at aout 7 pm, the person at the reception did not even ask to identify me, and I was led to a room with a window giving on the corridor, a small old sink giving only a tiny fillet or water, etc. Only cold water, but that seems to be general in San Juan. I eventually got used to all these "perks"..."

"Brand new hostel. Paid for breakfast which was very good. Owner speaks english. Is quite far from town center for going for food and entertainment. Also, the online price was lower than what we paid. As it was only one night, the 50% increase was too much of a big deal. However, it would certainly add up if staying for a few nights. "

"We didn’t end up staying at this hotel because she tried to double the price when we were paying. Hotels.com said 31.50 pay at hotel. When we arrived she said it was 52 and cash only. It also wasn’t close to the beach and she didn’t know how to use the computer or phone. We walked out and found a cute quiet hostel down the street with air conditioning and private bath for 25 "
