"Beautiful wildlife eco tourism facility. Many trails and opportunities right there to view the OSA Peninsula biodiversity. Meals were fabulous. We stayed in their one concrete “hobbit house” like facility which was Charming but lacked good sir circulation to cool down for sleeping despite 2 fans. "

"Very difficult to get to - hour and a half of bumpy roads to Carate, then a 3.5k hike. The logistics were not well communicated, but worked out fine. Hot (mid-April visit). The grounds are pretty special with spider monkeys frolicking in the trees right above the tents and ocean waves supplying 24-7 white noise. The guided hike into the National Park was underwhelming - the wildlife was superb, but you only skirt the periphery of the park and don't get to really explore the old growth. "

"Playa Cativo Lodge is a wonderful place and the accommodations, food and staff were absolutely perfect. It was nice to be so close to the gulf which was calm, warm, sandy and perfect for swimming. My only complaint was that the entire front area of the lodge has been landscaped with grass and ornamental plants, many of which are not native. Because of this large open area few birds or animals come near the lodge. Bird watching was disappointing compared to lodges that have left the rainforest...

"The view from absolutely everywhere is stunning. We had the chance to see a plethora of birds and monkeys from our little pool in our balcony. The drive there is a little challenging but the location makes it all worth it. Taking a shower indoor/outdoor is one of a lifetime experience. "

"This is a lovely place, but I can't give it a great review because on the day we checked-in no one was available at the hotel to answer the phone. Answering the phone when you have guest traveling from out of country, and to a very remote location is standard basic custom service. For whatever reason we could not find our email confirmation the day we were scheduled to arrive and we called and called for 5 hours straight on a Saturday between 12noon-5pm and no one answered the phone. "It is a true rare gem. A wonderful lodge in the middle of the jungle. Our villa was spacious. It has two huge rooms and a giant porch where we saw monkeys. I was grilling to the sound of howler monkeys. The owners are a young Danish couple who are welcoming and helpful. They are building a big pool which is going to be ready in the next few weeks. We were the second guests and I can tell you- this is going to be an upscale lodge so come now while the prices are still reasonable. The way...

"I stayed just one night at Cabinas upon arriving to the Osa peninsula and it was the perfect landing place to being my trip! The staff was so kind and helpful and it was great to be able to get out on the water and Kayak. The location is walking distance to town for cafes, grocery and restaurants. The price is affordable and the room was very clean and cosy! I would definitely stay again if I travel there! "

One of a Kind Experience

"Staying in this beautiful and unique treehouse, high in the green tree canopy, was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Hand crafted from gorgeous local wood, with four levels and open to the fresh air of the jungle, we felt absolutely in sync with the environment. It was an adventure to get there (four wheel drive is a must) but Michael's directions took us right there. On our first morning we awoke to howler monkeys calling, noting our presence in their neighborhood. What a fantastic introduction to the Costa Rican jungle! Beautifully designed and built, the treehouse has everything you need- the beds are comfortable, the kitchen in fine working order and the views sublime. There are a lot of stairs, which wind artfully around the central tree, so please note if that's a problem for you. Also, the house is open air, so there are a few bugs in the evening, but the fresh air is well worth it. The sweet town of Puerto Jimenez is just down the road, with groceries, restaurants and beautiful uncrowded beaches. Michael was a great host too, responsive to our may questions. All in all, our stay was fantastic and unforgettable."
